Tried print-and-play for the first time on a cheap home printer

I finally tried cutting out a print-and-play game after always buying retail, and I used my old HP printer from 2018 with just regular copy paper. The game ended up looking way better than I expected, the colors didn't smudge and the cuts lined up pretty well even with my shaky hands. Has anyone else had success with super basic setups or do you splurge on card stock and laminators?

Oh man, I tried print and play once with my 2015 inkjet that sounds like it's dying every time it starts up, and I swear my cuts looked like a kindergartner did them with safety scissors. I used regular printer paper so the cards are basically flimsy napkins that slide off the table if I sneeze. But honestly, it still worked for a solo game I played once, and now it's in a ziplock bag with coffee stains. I keep telling myself I'll get card stock next time, but then I spend the money on more games instead.
