Unpopular opinion: I realized I was being a terrible host for my game nights by not explaining the rules well enough. My friend's kid just sat there confused for a full hour.

Honestly, the bigger issue is picking the right game for the group. Trying to teach a complex strategy game to a mixed age table is a setup for failure. Start with something simple and visual, then build up to the heavier stuff later in the night.

How hard is it to run a quick demo round? Kids need the basics spelled out, or they just shut down. Good on you for finally seeing it.

Mark's got a point, Caleb. It's like you just discovered water is wet after watching a kid try to drink a rock. The demo round is the whole job.

Kids need the basics spelled out"?? That's the whole point of teaching. You just figured that out?
