Update: Our game club is divided on buying used vs. new board games.
Some members only grab used games to cut down on waste. Others think new copies support creators and have unplayed pieces. Which side do you take for a greener hobby?

Totally, I'm with @victor779 on this. I've figured out most of my favorite games were bought used and in really good shape. Reusing what's already out there just feels like the most direct way to cut waste.

Honestly the used game side makes more sense if you really care about being green. That shrink wrap and plastic insert waste from new copies adds up fast. Plus a lot of small creators actually see a boost from a strong secondhand market, because it gets more people talking about their games. You can also find used copies that are basically new, with all the pieces still unpunched.

But @victor779, what about the games that are moving away from that waste? I've seen a few new indie titles ship in just cardboard sleeves, no plastic at all. Does the used market still hold up as the clearly greener choice when some new production is getting cleaner? Or does the carbon footprint of shipping a used copy cross country kill that benefit?
