An old timer in a Pittsburgh yard showed me a trick for a stubborn flange gasket with just a torch and a scraper.

Gotta be careful with that torch method on a flange gasket. You can warp the flange face real easy if you get it too hot in one spot. I've seen guys try it and then the new gasket just blows out again. A better trick is to soak it with penetrating oil overnight and then use a flat chisel. You work it in from the side and it usually pops free without damaging the metal.

Yeah @william_harris, that chisel trick saved me last time I had a stubborn one stuck on a pump housing. Just had to be real patient with it.

Saw a video where a guy used dry ice to shrink a stuck gasket before trying to chisel it. Looked like it worked pretty well. @evakelly is right about the patience part though, rushing any of these methods just makes a bigger mess. That torch advice from William is solid, warping the flange is a real headache to fix later. Sometimes the old ways are still the best, just let the oil do its work overnight.
