Boss asked me to pick between re-tubing the whole unit or patching 12 pinholes, and I'm still laughing about my answer
I picked the patch job at the Gary, Indiana mill last Tuesday because the crane was down and we only had 1 shift, then spent 9 hours chasing new leaks and heard the foreman yell 'should've just pulled the whole bundle' over the radio at 2am, so which one would you have done?
Patching can work if you know exactly where the weak spots are but pinholes usually mean the whole thing is about to go. Been there on a boiler job where we chased leaks all night and ended up pulling the bundle anyway at 6am. Next time just yank the whole thing and save yourself the headache.
