Found out my grandpa's Local 549 card from 1962 is worth more to me than any paycheck
My mom handed me a shoebox of my grandpa's old union stuff when I helped her move out of her place in Wheeling 3 weeks back. I figured it was just junk, old dues receipts and a beat up hard hat. But tucked in the bottom was his Boilermakers Local 549 card from 1962, and what got me was the back of it. There's a stamp showing he paid $7.50 in quarterly dues, and a little handwritten note about a job at a chemical plant in Marietta. I've been doing this trade 14 years now and it hit me that the card he carried in his wallet is the same shape and size as mine today. The local even uses the same number. I sat on my tailgate for a good 20 minutes just flipping it over. Any of you got old cards or tools from family in the trade? Curious if your local kept the same number too.
