Had a flange gasket blow on a 300 psi steam line last Tuesday

It was a standard spiral-wound type we'd used for years. The sudden pressure drop tripped the whole unit offline. What's your go-to gasket for high-pressure steam now?

Saw a guy try to fix one with duct tape once, which was a truly terrible idea.

Kammprofile is solid, but isn't that overkill for a 300 psi line? Seems like a beefed-up spiral wound would still do the job right if it was installed correctly.

Switched to Kammprofile gaskets after a similar blowout, zero issues since.

But what if the real problem is just using the wrong gasket for the media?
