I tried preheating my tube welds with a propane torch before bending on a job in Fresno and the cracks went away
Foreman said the steel was just cold, and sure enough warming it to about 150 degrees before rolling cut my rejection rate from 4 tubes a shift to zero. Anyone else doing this on thick wall stuff, or am I just getting lucky with the weather?
Man, I have to disagree on the cold weather being the main cause. Four tubes a shift going bad is way too high for that to just be temperature, sounds more like your roll setup or the material itself was fighting you. The preheat probably helped, but I would check your bend radius and wall thickness too before chalking it all up to Fresno weather.
