Just wrapped up a boiler install two days early. Everyone gives me grief, but I'm sure chalk lines beat masking tape for layout.

My old foreman swore by tape for years, had us all doing it. Then I saw a chalk line hold perfect on a windy rooftop job and never went back.

Oh man, I feel seen. My layout technique is mostly just squinting and hoping (which explains a lot, honestly). But you're totally right, a solid chalk line is way more trustworthy than tape that just curls up and mocks you.

That chalk line SNAP is so satisfying though, like a little gritty reality check. Mine always ends up brighter on one side no matter what I do.
