Showerthought: My neighbor's complaint about noise led to a better worksite schedule.

Now we start earlier and finish before his kids get home.

Nice! It's cool to see a complaint actually lead to a practical solution. I mean, this kinda thing points to a bigger issue where urban planning often ignores how different schedules clash. Like, construction noise during homework time is a real stressor for families, so adjusting hours shows basic consideration. Idk, maybe we should normalize more dialogue between worksites and neighborhoods before issues even come up.

Yeah, early morning construction wrecked my sleep last year too.

Man, that whole schedule clash thing is so real. I mean, last summer there was this roadwork that started at like 5 AM near my place, but it was for emergency sewer repairs so nobody could really complain, you know? It ended up going on for weeks, and the city actually set up a temporary noise buffer after the first few days because so many people called in. Idk, it was kinda wild to see them react that fast, but also just shows how usually it takes a crisis to get any action. Like, if they'd just told us upfront it was an emergency, maybe folks would've been more understanding from the jump. But yeah, always seems to be a reaction instead of a plan, which is exactly what amycarr is pointing out.
