The old boilermaker in Gary who watched me tack a tube for 10 minutes without saying a word
Two weeks ago I was helping retube a small firetube boiler at a food plant outside Gary, Indiana, and this retired hand named Ray came by to watch. I was tacking a tube in and fighting the angle, and he just stood there with his arms crossed for about 10 minutes not saying anything. When I finally got it set, he said "you been rushing the puddle since you started" and then walked off to his truck. He was right, and I could not stop thinking about it all shift. How do you all handle it when someone watches you work without a word?
