TIL a trick for a stuck flange nut on a boiler in a Detroit factory
I was working on a 20-year-old boiler in a Detroit factory last month and the flange nut was completely seized, not moving with any wrench. My foreman said to try a mix of penetrating oil and a little heat, then tap it with a hammer before trying again. It came loose after two tries, saving us from cutting it off. What's your go-to method for a seized nut on an old system?

My uncle swears by a candle for rusty bike parts.

Honestly thought heat was overkill until seeing @sage_green's candle trick work on a rusty mower deck.

Heat and a candle is the way to go, @sage_green proved that on the mower deck. Penetrating oil alone never works on old rusted stuff in my experience. A little tap with a hammer before the heat does the trick too.
