Vent: cracked a 3/4 inch tube sheet weld on a boiler in Gary and had to cut it out by hand

Spent 6 hours with a die grinder in a 90 degree firebox last Tuesday after my root pass failed a bend test, and I'm still not sure if I should've bumped up my amperage or just walked away when I saw the fit-up was off by a quarter inch, so what would you guys have done?
