Appreciation post: How a fresh blade changed my whole approach to paring leather
I spent like 18 months using the same old #2 scalpel blade for trimming leather covers on my bindings. The cuts were always rough and I kept having to sand edges down to hide the mess. Last week I finally swapped to a new blade and the difference is night and day. The leather just glides through now with almost no fraying on the edges. I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner but also wondering if anyone else has had a similar wake-up call with a tool they ignored for too long?

Isn't it funny how we'll put up with a frustrating tool for way too long just because changing it feels like admitting something? I think that's true for a lot of things in life, we get comfortable with what's broken because we know how to work around it.

Why would you wait 18 months to change a blade? That's like driving on bald tires and wondering why the ride is bumpy.

Honestly, waiting that long is just asking for trouble, pure and simple.
