My dog ate my paste brush and I had to use a basting brush from the kitchen

I was in the middle of a quarter leather rebind on a 1920s poetry book when my golden retriever, Cooper, decided my 1-inch paste brush was a chew toy. Grabbed a silicone basting brush from the drawer and it actually worked fine for applying the wheat paste, lol. Anyone have a better emergency substitute they've used?

At least you didn't have to use the dog brush.

My kitchen drawer has saved more projects than my actual toolbox. That silicone brush is probably cleaner than my old paste brush anyway.

Gotta disagree with @hill.margaret on this one. Kitchen tools fall apart under real stress, like stirring thick epoxy. That silicone brush melts near heat, and a proper paste brush holds way more material for big jobs. Dedicated tools are made for the abuse.

Exactly! @hill.margaret's brush would be a sticky mess.
