My friend told me to use a hair dryer on a stuck leather cover
She said to set it on low and hold it about six inches away for thirty seconds... so I tried it on a project last week. The cover came loose, but then the whole piece of leather warped like a potato chip. Had to scrap the whole thing and start over with a new skin from Tandy Leather. Anyone know a better way to deal with stubborn paste?

The hair dryer method works fine if you respect the material. You have to keep it moving constantly, never hold it in one spot. A quick pass on low heat just softens the glue without cooking the leather. It's all about control and not letting the heat build up.

My last attempt at the hair dryer method ended with a wallet that looked like a sad pringle. I was trying to fix a glued flap and ended up with a piece of modern art. Had to explain to my wife why her gift was a twisted piece of brown cardboard. I'm sticking to a dull butter knife for prying things up now, way less exciting but also less likely to ruin my day.
