Shoutout to the bindery guy in Portland who showed me the wheat paste hack after my spine cracked on the third book
I was pressing my first full leather binding on a 400 page text block last month and the spine cracked right at the hinge because I rushed the casing-in with too much PVA, so I drove over to his shop on SE Division and he had me mix a tiny batch of wheat paste with just a splash of PVA and brush it thin along the joint before re-casing, and that book has been holding tight for 6 weeks now, anyone else using paste and PVA blends on their hinges?
