Shoutout to the guy who told me to try a bone folder over a teflon one

I was binding a set of poetry books for a local shop and had to pick between a new teflon folder and a simple bone one. I went with the bone tool because it was cheaper, about $12. The feel of it on the paper is just different, it gives a sharper, cleaner crease without any shine. Has anyone else found the old ways work better for certain jobs?

That "sharper, cleaner crease" reminds me of scoring lines on my old checkbook register with a butter knife.

It's all about the right tool for the job. A butter knife works in a pinch, but a bone folder gives you way more control. The difference is pretty clear once you try it.

Honestly, it's just folding paper. Does the type of folder really make that big of a difference in the end?

Right? It's like how a real key just feels better than a plastic key fob, some old tools just have a better soul.
