Spent $140 on authentic linen and ruined it with the wrong glue
Last month I treated myself to proper book cloth for a rebind project, then used regular PVA on it without checking the nap first. The glue soaked straight through and left hard white streaks on the front cover, totally wrecked the whole piece. Anyone else find a reliable way to test fabric before committing to a full case?
That really sucks, $140 on linen and then losing it to glue is brutal. I went through something close with a cotton blend where the PVA bled through and left shiny patches, so now I always cut a scrap square and glue it to a junk board first, then wait a full day to see how it dries. The nap test matters too, if the fabric has any fuzzy direction the glue will wick right along it and show through. Maybe try brushing a thin layer on the back of a test piece and holding it up to light after it sets, that shows the soak through before you wreck a whole cover.
