Just realized my friend's comment about plant names being 'stuck up' changed how I see my own garden.

He said 'calling it *Hemerocallis fulva* instead of ditch lily is like wearing a tuxedo to mow the lawn,' and now I'm rethinking all my fancy plant tags.

My ditch lilies are staying ditch lilies. The Latin names feel like a weird flex for my backyard. I'm swapping out those tags this weekend.

So ditch lilies need a tux now?

Last year my friend's wedding had a "garden formal" dress code that confused everyone. I wore a simple navy suit with a clean button down shirt, no tie. It was dressy enough to not look out of place but way more comfortable than a full tux. The key is to match the level of formality of the event itself, not just the location. A dark suit is almost always a safe bet for these semi formal outdoor things.
