My mystery aloe finally bloomed after 4 years of waiting

I got this sad little aloe from a plant swap in Portland back in 2021 and it never did much besides grow a few leaves. Last week I walked into my sunroom and there was a tall flower stalk shooting up out of it. I didn't even know aloes did that indoors, has anyone else had one surprise them like this?

Tall flower stalk shooting up" is exactly what happened to me with a sad little Christmas cactus I almost gave up on. It's wild how these plants will just wait years for the right moment and then suddenly decide to show off like that. I bet your mystery aloe has been secretly plotting that bloom since you brought it home from Portland.

Were you watering it differently or did it just decide to bloom on its own?

Oh man, that's exactly what happened with my peace lily that did nothing for two years and then just exploded with blooms!
