Spent 6 hours trying to fix a drooping peace lily before I figured out the problem
I have a peace lily in my living room in Portland that started drooping bad last month. I kept watering it more and moving it around trying different light spots. After six hours of messing with it I finally realized the pot had no drainage holes and the roots were rotting. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on a simple plant care fix?

I used to think peace lilies were practically indestructible and people who killed them just had black thumbs. But yours taught me something man. I had the exact same thing happen with a fern I bought at Home Depot. Kept watering it thinking it was thirsty and it just got worse. After four hours I pulled it out and the bottom was basically sludge. No drainage holes is like keeping a fish in a bowl of dirty water. Now I check every single pot before I even bring it home. That six hours probably saved you from buying a whole new plant though so it was worth it.

That fern story hits close to home. Same exact thing happened with a snake plant I grabbed from Lowes last year. Looked fine on the shelf but after a week the leaves started getting mushy. Dug it out and the root ball was basically swimming in water with no way out. Drilled some holes in the pot and repotted it but the damage was already done. Lost half the plant before it finally bounced back. Those decorative pots with no holes should honestly come with a warning label. Its such a simple thing that makes or kills a plant.

Did you try a diamond drill bit on that pot?
