Spent $75 on a soil moisture meter and it's either my best buy or a total waste.
Some say it's a must for perfect watering, but others think it's just a gadget that makes you overthink a simple task, so what's your take?

Watched my buddy kill a perfectly healthy fiddle leaf fig with one of those things. He kept checking it every day, moving it around the pot, and the meter kept giving him different readings. Ended up watering it based on the gadget instead of just feeling the soil, and he drowned the roots. Now he just uses his finger to check an inch down, and all his plants are fine. Sometimes you just need to trust yourself, not a screen.

My sister did the same thing with her peace lily.

Yeah, the part about checking it every day and moving it around... my friend did that with her snake plant. She'd get a "dry" reading one day, water it, then check a different spot and get "moist." She panicked and repotted the whole thing, which just stressed the plant out more. It lost like three leaves before she gave up on the meter.

My fiddle leaf fig died the exact same way.
