The plant shop in Portland sold me a 'low light' fern and it fried under my desk lamp in 4 days
I finally looked up what 'low light' actually means for ferns and it's not a dark corner, it's like 200 foot candles, which is way more than my apartment gets. Now I keep a $15 light meter app on my phone and I've stopped killing things, mostly. Does anyone else think plant labels should give actual numbers instead of vague words?
Wait, 200 foot candles is low light? I always figured low light meant something like a shady spot that gets a little sun now and then. A $15 meter app telling you your whole place is basically a cave is kind of a gut punch. No wonder every fern I've ever brought home turned brown and crispy.
