Update: I almost killed my entire fern collection with my old watering routine
Honestly, for years I just watered everything on a set schedule, every Sunday morning. Then last spring, my Boston ferns in the living room started getting brown tips and dropping leaves. I read a post from a grower in Florida who said to only water when the top inch of soil is dry, and to use room temp water, not cold from the tap. I switched to checking each plant with my finger first, and it's been a total game changer. Has anyone else had a specific plant that forced them to change a basic habit?

Oh man, I read this article about how most houseplants die from overwatering, not underwatering. It said we treat them like pets that need constant feeding, but they really just want us to leave them alone most of the time. That totally changed how I see my plants... I used to feel guilty if I skipped a watering day. Now I check the soil like you do, and it just makes sense. My peace lily was the one that finally taught me to back off.

What made you stick with the Sunday routine for so long before changing it?

Honestly, it just felt safe and predictable for years. Like, Sunday was laundry day, then meal prep, then that one specific show at 8pm. It built a wall against the Sunday scaries. But last month I realized I was just going through the motions and dreading it. What about you, did you ever have a routine that just stopped feeling useful?
