Vent: My orchid propagation attempt went sideways

I tried to split my phalaenopsis orchid last month and ended up losing one of the new growths. It just rotted at the base after three days no matter what I did with the humidity dome. Has anyone else had trouble dividing orchids, or was this just a bad plant?

Sounds like your plant just gave you a very expensive lesson in orchid physics, lol.

OH COME ON, that's just cruel. Alright, I'll bite - how much did that "lesson" actually cost you? Because I've been there with a couple of fussy plants and I KNOW the price tags can really sting. Was it a rare species or just one of those orchids that decides to spite you for no reason? I swear half the time they just look at me like "you paid how much for my pot?

Hold on... wait a minute. You're telling me that thing rotted out in just three days? That's crazy fast for an orchid. I've never seen a healthy plant go south that quick unless you accidentally left it sitting in a puddle of water or something. Even with a humidity dome, three days is unreal... I had a division take almost two weeks to show any signs of trouble. That plant must've had some kind of infection already working its way through the stem before you even touched it. Bad luck buddy, that's just the way it goes sometimes.
