The $15 notebook that finally fixed my tool inventory after 8 years

I kept losing track of what was in my work truck, so I spent $15 on a waterproof notebook and started writing down every tool I used that day with a date next to it. After 3 months I noticed which gear was actually earning its keep and which stuff I was just hauling around out of habit. Has anyone else tried the low-tech route when apps and spreadsheets just made the chaos worse?
