TIL the 'quiet car' on Amtrak is a total myth
Rode the Northeast Regional from DC to NYC last Tuesday and sat in the quiet car like I always do. Not one person actually kept quiet. A guy took a 40 minute phone call about his fantasy football lineup, someone watched TikToks on full volume, and a lady crunched chips like it was a movie theater. I counted 11 separate noise violations in a 3 hour ride. Either enforce the rule or drop the label, Amtrak. I asked the conductor about it and she just shrugged and said they can't really police it. Has anyone else given up on quiet cars or am I the only one who actually expects silence there?
