Unpopular opinion: claiming a 2-hour daily commute is 'productive time' is BS

I saw a stat last week that said the average metro Phoenix commuter loses 54 hours a year stuck in traffic. People love to say they use that time for podcasts or calls, but I tried it for 3 months and realized I was just half-listening to everything. You can't really focus on work or deep conversations when you're dodging merge lanes on the I-10. I found that stat on the local DOT's annual report and it made me question all the 'hustle culture' posts about turning drive time into study time. Am I the only one who thinks we should just accept the drive is dead time and stop pretending it's a win?

Switched to audiobooks for a while and then realized I was missing half the plot every time I had to brake hard. Fiction was a waste, so I settled on short podcasts about stuff I already knew, basically background noise. The drive is just lost time, plain and simple, and pretending otherwise made me more tired than the traffic itself.
