Why does nobody talk about how giving your gas mower ethanol free gas for 3 straight months stops the carb from gumming up
My Toro used to die every spring until I switched to the premium ethanol free pump at the Shell on Broadway last season and it fired up first pull after sitting all winter.

You ever see a grown man nearly cry over a lawn mower? My buddy Rick put regular gas in his Honda mower for like four years straight, had to rebuild the carb every spring. Finally switched last fall to the ethanol free at the BP near the train station, left it in the tank all winter, and the thing started on the first pull in March. He called me to brag about it. I told him to go buy a lottery ticket while he was on a roll.

So did he save the old carb or just toss it?

Keep the old carb around if he can, they're usually rebuildable and save a good chunk of money. @janah83 is mostly right about the ethanol free gas helping, but that first pull success in March might have more to do with the rebuild than the fuel switch. Worth checking if Rick drained the carb before winter storage, that's the real game changer.
