Why I stopped thinking wooden floors were always better after my last move

I used to swear by hardwood floors for every house. Had a client last month in Austin who had this high end engineered wood that was scratched up after just one couch slide. Their old laminate in the kitchen looked perfect after 5 years with dogs. The stuff with a thick wear layer and aluminum oxide coating is just tougher for real life. Has anyone else switched their mind about a material after seeing it actually hold up?

Oh come on, LVP is not some magical waterproof wonder material. I've seen plenty of photos online where water still seeped through the seams and caused mold underneath. You really trust a click-lock floor over real wood in a flood?

My sister's LVP in Houston survived a flooded washing machine with zero warping. That changed my mind completely. Hardwood would have been ruined and needed full replacement. Sometimes the cheaper option is actually the smarter one for real life.

My sister's LVP flooded? That's what insurance is for though. Was it really that big of a deal?
