Counted up my brick tally for spring and hit 11,000 laid solo
I keep a little notebook in the truck and add up my brick count at the end of each job, mostly just to see if my body is keeping pace with my brain. Last Friday I added the numbers from a porch rebuild in Gary and the total came to 11,000 brick laid by myself since March. When I started this tally 4 springs back, my best was around 8,400, so seeing that jump made me sit down on the tailgate for a minute. Part of it is the new mortar board setup, part of it is just knowing when to stop for water instead of pushing through the afternoon heat. Any of you keep a running count on your own work, or is that just a me thing?
That notebook habit is solid, I do the same thing with a grease pencil on the dash. Writing it down keeps you honest about your pace, and you start to see what setups actually save your back instead of just guessing. The water breaks thing is real too, I used to crash at 3pm every day until I started forcing myself to stop every hour.
