Found a 1920s brick stamp under old plaster in a Philly row home
I was tearing out a wall for a reno in Fishtown and there it was, a clay brick with a maker's stamp from a brickyard that shut down in 1929. The homeowner had no clue the original brick was still there, hidden behind a century of plaster and paint. Now I check behind every wall before I start laying new work, even on simple repointing jobs. Has anyone else found old stamps or markings that changed how they approached a job?
