Had an old timer tell me my mortar mix was too wet last month

He said 'you're making soup, not mortar' and walked off. I cut back the water by about 20% and my joints are way tighter now. Has anyone else had to relearn something basic after years on the job?

Man, that old timer knew his stuff. A wet mix is sloppy work no matter how fast it goes on. Just a little less water can change everything.

Kelly's missing the point entirely.

Hey, I get what you're saying, but is it really that serious? I've seen plenty of guys use a wet mix and get solid results, especially on hot days when the stuff dries out fast. Sometimes a little extra water helps with workability, and if you know what you're doing, it can still hold up fine. That old timer's advice sounds good in theory, but it's not like every pour needs to be perfect to be functional. Maybe he was just stuck in his ways and didn't like change. I'd rather focus on getting the job done than worrying if my mix is off by a few drops.
