Heard a foreman say "joints are for smoking" on a job last week...
He was talking about control joints in a big slab pour, and it made me realize how many guys just skip them on patios to save time. Has anyone else run into trouble after leaving out joints on a residential slab?

That "joints are for smoking" foreman ever come back to fix a slab for free?

Man that foreman got it right, "joints are for smoking" is a good way to put it. I saw a buddy skip joints on his own patio last summer to save a few hours and now it's got a crack running right through the middle of it that he can't hide. Makes you wonder why guys are in such a rush to cut corners when a little extra work up front saves you from a mess later. Those control joints might not look pretty but they sure beat a big ugly crack down the road.
