I finally stopped using cheap mixing paddles after one broke apart on me...

Lost a whole batch of mortar and about 45 minutes of setup time when that $8 paddle shattered mid-mix on a job down in Springfield last Tuesday, has anyone else had better luck with the steel-core ones?

Springfield here too, actually. Seen this exact thing happen three times now on different jobsites. The cheap ones snap right where the shaft meets the mixing head. I've been using the steel-core ones for about a year now and haven't had a single failure since. Worth the extra money when you think about how long cleanup takes after a busted paddle.

Went through three of the cheap ones in two months on a foundation pour last year. Same break every time, right at the weld point. Finally switched to a forged steel paddle with a reinforced collar near the head. Cost about double but it's been through fifteen mixes now without even a wobble. Also helps to not run the drill wide open in thick mud, let the paddle do the work.
