I used to think premix mortar was lazy work

Talked to this old timer Gary on a job last week and he said using premix lets you focus on the pattern instead of the mix. He laid a perfect herringbone wall in half the time I could do with bag mix. Anybody else switch and never look back?

You ever try going back to bag mix after using premix? I had the same moment on a patio last year and honestly I felt dumb for not switching sooner. The time saved and the consistent texture just makes the whole job smoother.

Right? I used to think bag mix was just fine and premix was for people with money to burn. But @marywilson's story about that 7pm redo hit home - I've been there. Now I'm a total convert, no question.

Tried going back to bag mix once. Had to redo the whole job because the texture was like trying to spread wet sand. Felt real smart standing there with a trowel in my hand at 7pm on a Tuesday.
