Just realized my old brick spacing trick was causing issues

I used to eyeball the gaps between bricks instead of using a spacer. Stopped that last month and started measuring every course. Now my walls are straighter and the mortar use is more consistent. It takes a bit longer but the results speak for themselves.

Ever think @viola677's advice applies to more than just bricklaying?

How long did you eyeball bricks before switching? I did the same thing for ages, and my walls were always a bit wonky. @robins83 has a point about saving time later by being careful now. Measuring each course seems like a drag, but you really can't argue with straight lines and even mortar. It's one of those skills that feels basic but makes a huge difference. I'm glad you figured it out before it cost you more work.

Yeah, it's one of those things where the extra few seconds per course saves you from fixing crooked walls later. I learned that the hard way too.
