Mortar mix disaster at a job site in Austin

I was laying block on a retaining wall last Tuesday when the mortar started setting up in the wheelbarrow in under 10 minutes. Turned out the sand pile had a ton of clay mixed in from the supplier. Had to tear out 12 feet of wall before it cured and remix with fresh sand.

Check your water ratio man, clay or not that's way too fast.

linda's right that water ratio has to be spot on for clay. But I've run the same mix bone dry and still hit three times that speed. Your grinder or nozzle might be the real issue.

My TS5300 runs clay mixes at 2700psi all day. Water ratio is fine. I actually dropped the water on purpose to test it and it still held steady. Three times that speed isn't normal for any machine. Something else is wrong like maybe your inlet screen is clogged or your unloader is sticking. Linda's advice is solid but it doesn't explain that big of a difference.
