My foreman swore by dry laying every course first, but wet fitting the corners saved me 2 hours on the Ash Street job
He always said dry laying the whole wall first was the only way to catch mistakes, but I started buttering just the corners wet and it caught the same problems way faster. Anyone else tried this or am I setting myself up for a callback?
Wet setting those corners first is the smart move and your foreman was just stuck in his ways. Dry laying the whole wall works but it takes forever and you end up handling every brick twice for no good reason. The corners control everything, so if you get those set right wet the rest of the wall basically lines itself up. You still catch the same out of square problems because the corners show you right away if something is off. Two hours saved on one job adds up fast across a whole season. Only thing I would watch is making sure your line stays true once you start running to the wet corners, but if you check it as you go you will be fine.
