Old timer told me to wet my line every 10 bricks on a 90 degree day in Tucson last August

I figured it was just boomer talk, but after the third course started sagging like a wet noodle I soaked the whole wall down and it set up solid as a rock, has anyone else had a supposedly outdated trick save their whole day?

I'd argue it's way more than just luck... that forecast was calling for clear skies three days out and they nailed it. Planning a trip around a weather window like that takes actual skill and patience, not just crossing your fingers and hoping. People love to downplay good decisions by calling them luck when they could just say "nice work" instead.

You know, I used to be one of those people who just chalked it up to luck too, but @the_claire actually makes a really good point there. I've been watching more of their trip reports and you can see the pattern of them waiting for the right window instead of just rushing out. It's way harder to sit on your hands for three days and resist the urge to go than it is to just wing it and hope for the best. I guess I never really thought about the patience part until it was spelled out like that.
