PSA: I mixed a half bag of leftover lime mortar with my standard Type N for a small garden wall patch, and it set way too fast in the heat.

I'm debating if that was a dumb move that wasted material or a clever way to use up leftovers for a faster set, so what's your take on blending mortar types for small repairs?

Mixing a half bag of leftover lime mortar is exactly the kind of thing I'd try, lmao. I did something similar last summer patching some brick and it was like it turned to rock in the bucket before I could even finish. Totally wasted the batch. For a small repair, I'd just stick with one type next time, the fast set isn't worth the risk of it going bad on you.

But isn't a little waste just part of the fun with DIY?

Oh man, waste is the opposite of fun. I learned that the hard way trying to mix a tiny bit of thin-set for a single tile. Measured wrong and it turned to soup, had to chuck the whole bag. Now I just use the pre-mixed stuff for any small job. It costs a bit more per ounce but you use every bit of it.
