Rant: stopped using pre-mixed mortar and my walls actually look straight now

Switched to bag mix about 6 months ago after fighting with pre-mixed for years. The difference in consistency is night and day, especially on a hot day where the pre-mixed would just slide. Anyone else have better luck with dry mix?

I'd heard that too from a old timer at the supply yard, said pre-mixed is just for quick patch jobs.

Oh man, this reminds me of something that went down with my buddy Chris last summer. @miller.rowan your old timer was spot on from what I saw. Chris grabbed a couple buckets of pre-mixed from the big box store to fix his walkway before a BBQ and by the time people showed up it was already cracking. He spent the whole party sulking while his wife gave him the look.

Bought a bag of Quikrete and mixed it myself in a wheelbarrow. Came out solid and it lasted years. Way cheaper and easier than messing with those buckets.
