Serious question, are new guys relying too much on videos instead of asking questions?
I see them watching clips on their phones instead of trying things out. Makes me miss the old way of learning by doing.

You know how some people get really deep into video tutorials? My buddy watched like three hours of cabinet-making clips before even touching a piece of wood. He knew all the terms but then totally froze up in the shop because he had never felt how a saw handles in real life. I mean the videos gave him a picture in his head but none of the muscle memory. Maybe finding a balance is the tricky part.

Totally get what you mean. Your buddy knew the theory but his hands were clueless. It's like watching someone explain how to throw a curveball, you gotta actually feel the grip and the wrist snap. So @allen.kai, how do you actually build that muscle memory from a screen? Can you really learn the feel of a saw binding in a cut, or the exact pressure for a smooth plane stroke, without ever holding the tool?

Watch a video then immediately try it like @victor_robinson said.

Honestly, I kind of see it the opposite way. Videos let them learn at their own pace and rewatch tricky parts over and over. It's a different way to try things out, not really a replacement for it.
