Nah, I've always gone drier. A stiff mix sticks better and doesn't slump. That wet stuff just makes a mess.

Ever think about how the sand you're using changes the perfect mix? Some sand is just super thirsty and needs more water to feel right, other stuff holds moisture like a sponge. That brick probably showed you what YOUR local sand actually wants.
