The $40 mortar mixer paddle that burned me on a Saturday job

Bought a cheap paddle off Amazon for my small retaining wall project in Ohio, and it threw chunks halfway through the third batch, leaving me hand mixing for 2 hours. Anyone else find the expensive paddles actually worth it, or did I just get a dud?

Might be the paddle itself but also check your drill's torque settings. A lot of guys run the drill wide open on high gear and that shreds cheap paddles fast. Low gear with steady pressure does way less damage to the metal. Also that third batch is when the mix starts getting stiff if you're doing it right, and that's exactly when cheap stuff snaps. Worth grabbing a name brand just for the peace of mind, but honestly the real fix is slowing down and letting the tool eat instead of forcing it.
