Went back to a string line after my laser level died on site

My laser level gave out halfway through a garden wall in Brighton last month, so I dug out my old string line to finish the course. Honestly, the string was quicker for keeping the face flat, and I got the whole 12 meter run done without rechecking anything. Anyone else ditched the tech for a simple line when things act up?

Ugh, here we go again with the whole "back to basics" thing. Look, a string line works fine till the wind picks up or you bump it once, then your entire wall is slightly off and you dont even notice till its too late. You got lucky with a 12 meter run, but lets not pretend lasers are useless just cause one died on you. Maybe the real issue is you didnt have a backup battery.

Totally agree, a string line is fine until its not. I had one blowout on a job years ago, cost me a whole afternoon redoing the run. Battery dies or you drop the laser, its still better than guessing with a string.
