Yeah, that's a classic sign they rushed the masons.

My last DIY mortar job looked like a toddler mixed it with a spoon. I'm the reason they tell you to hire a pro.

You see any gaps in the mortar? Oscar's right about rushing, but sometimes it's just a bad mix that won't hold up.
