Finally bought a big bag of rice and it's a game changer

I spent $12 on a 20 pound bag of jasmine rice at the Asian market last month. It felt like a lot at the time, but we've used it as a base for like 15 meals already. Just had it with some cheap black beans and salsa for lunch. Has anyone else found a single cheap ingredient that stretches your food budget like crazy?

Bulk rice only gets boring if you let it, like taylor.reese said. I read a blog about using different spices and sauces to change it up completely. A big bag is just a starting point for cheap, good meals.

Honestly that sounds like a huge pain to store and cook every single day. Bulk rice just leads to boring, repetitive meals that make you hate your own kitchen. The initial savings aren't worth the culinary misery.

My 25 pound bag of jasmine rice is currently judging me from the pantry. It's true, Tuesday's garlic rice and Thursday's fried rice were basically cousins. But that's why hot sauce and a fried egg were invented. It's a blank canvas, not a life sentence.
