Heard a cashier in Spokane say 'beans are the new steak' and it stuck with me

I was buying a bag of dried pinto beans for about a dollar fifty and the guy at the register made that comment. It got me thinking about how my grandma used to cook a huge pot of beans with some onion and bacon ends every Sunday. That pot would feed the family for days, with leftovers for soup or burritos. Now I do the same thing, and a single bag makes meals for almost a whole week. It's a simple trick that really cuts the grocery bill. What are your favorite ways to use up a big batch of beans?

Man, that cashier nailed it. I do the same thing with black beans and they stretch so far it almost feels like cheating the system.

Oh man, those are the best part. So much flavor. I just chop them up and fry them real crispy.

Chop them up before or after you cook them? I've tried both ways and I'm never sure which is better for getting them really crispy.
